Each insurance plan differs in terms of whether psychological testing is covered, and to what degree. Many PPO plans cover some portion of psychological testing with an in-network provider. It is your responsibility to be fully aware of your current insurance benefits, including your deductible amounts (for both in and out of network providers), co-insurance or co-pay amounts, at the time of the evaluation.

PIVOT Child Psychological Services is a private pay practice and does not contract directly with insurance companies. Payment for services will be due up front.

Psychological testing at Pivot is a process of trying to determine the core components of a person’s psychological or mental health problems, personality, IQ, or some other component. It is also a process that helps identify not just weaknesses of a person, but also their strengths.

At Pivot we use a team approach, believing in the value that many eyes can bring new perspectives to each situation. Our team approach to psychological testing includes professionals who initially assess your concerns in an intake performed over Zoom. Dr. Hales and his team then determine the individualized battery of tests that will help uncover your unique challenges and strengths. The day or days of testing is scheduled and you’ll be assessed by the psychologist and/or psychological associate. Then, a follow up appointment will be scheduled to give you your results and diagnoses.

Just as with medical conditions, the cause of a person’s problems isn’t always clear. For example, if a child is having trouble in school, many diagnoses could explain the struggle:

1. Does he or she have a reading problem such as dyslexia?
2. An attention problem such as attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)?
3. Difficulty with impulse control?
4. Stress or a mood disorder such as depression or anxiety?

Psychological tests and assessments for ADHD, Learning, and/or Memory allow a psychologist to understand the nature of the problem, and to figure out the best way to go about addressing it.

We can help address school-based difficulties if your child is not already on or doesn’t qualify for an IEP plan.

No, you are welcome and encouraged to call me directly to discuss your questions/concerns, and schedule an evaluation without a referral. We will have a brief phone consultation to determine if my services are the best fit for your concerns.

One critical component of the evaluation process is the collaborative process of discussing relevant and useful recommendations for services to support your child/adolescent. If and when psychotherapy is recommended following the evaluation, we will provide your family with several specifically tailored referrals to providers that may be a good fit for your son or daughter.

Yes, absolutely. Any information you or your child/adolescent share during the evaluation is completely confidential. Information will only be shared with your written consent, in such instances where you would like me to consult with your child’s teacher, therapist, or health care professional. A comprehensive written report will go directly to the parent(s)/legal guardians and will only be shared with other professionals with your written consent. Information shared by your child/adolescent surrounding suspected child/elder abuse or imminent safety concerns will be shared with parents during the evaluation process, as required by the laws and ethics that guide my professional practice.
