A MESSAGE FROM Kristin Huntley

We all want our children to thrive at home, school, and have systems of support for them to confidently grow into adulthood. But when children struggle with their mental health, it’s tough for them to focus in class or make friends. Sometimes, these problems can spill over to home life, making it hard for them to get along with family.

I’m a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner here at Pivot and for the past 14 years, I have helped in the treatment of children who are impacted by behavioral health or learning challenges. I provide psychiatric evaluations and assessments so parents can have a clear picture on how to best support their child.

At your child’s first appointment I will hear your concerns, review any applicable records (IEP/504 plans, psychological evaluations, pediatrician records, hospital discharge notes, report cards, child drawings, or anything else you deem appropriate), I’ll also take a psychiatric and family history, and spend some time with your child (using play therapy for younger children) or a classic interview with teens to understand their own perspective, interests, and goals.

After the initial intake session, we will come together to establish an evidence based plan of action.

Early intervention is crucial if you believe your child’s learning and social engagement are not thriving. Here’s how to get started:

First, Fill Out the New Client Appointment Form.

Second, We’ll work with you to schedule your child’s first appointment.

Third, I’ll begin to work with you and your child.

When children are able to focus, follow through on tasks, and synthesize new information like social cues and critical thinking, they feel good about themselves!

I look forward to establishing a partnership with you and your family to bring joy back into their childhood and your parenting.
